The adaptive reuse of the former Cape Cod Five Bank headquarters creates a new multifamily housing community called Phare.

The name itself means lighthouse in French, a call back to the seaside community of Orleans.

The 62 units of affordable housing comprise one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans. The original building has been converted into 20 residences, and a new L-shaped addition houses 34 units. Two new four-unit townhouse-style structures have been developed on the opposite side of the access drive.

The exteriors of the buildings combine contemporary detailing with a traditional Cape Cod vernacular, while the introduction of a neutral color palette, red brick, and gabled rooflines nods to a Colonial Revival style.

Residents enjoy on-site amenities such as a playground, community garden, fitness center, resident lounge, bike racks, and a walking path. The community is also situated just north of a key shopping center, which includes a full-service grocery store, pharmacy, and bus stop.
